News from our School Project in Burkina Faso
During the last few weeks riots took place in Burkina Faso. The construction of the school building had to be stopped for some days. Thankfully the riots are over now and the situation calmed down.
But not even these riots could endanger our project. The 1st of October was the first school day for 80 girls and boys in three different classes. All in all there is capacity for 150 pupils. Especially the percentage of girls will be raised.
Due to many helping hands, it was possible to open the school just one year from the beginning of the construction.
The next huge milestone will be the finalization of the school building and its area in the next few weeks.

News from our Functional Literacy Program
Currently, a TSSI team in Burkina Faso plus Germany and a team from Tata Consulting Services (TCS) are working on the update of the Computer Based Functional Literacy (CBFL) software. After four successful years, the idea is to update the software according to the latest curriculum including reading, writing, and numeracy parts. Once CBFL is updated in line with latest governmental requirements the project gets access to public funds to run additional CBFL centers. By teaching more and more people how to read, CBFL does not only provide people with the ability to access further sources of education, but also provides them with the needed skills for better jobs, thus helping them to feed their families. Therefore, we are really looking forward to reach this new milestone in Burkina Faso.More about the project

News from our Apiculture Organization
Today, our apiculture center consists of three buildings: the production site, the classroom & administration building and housing for students & teachers. Over 100 beehives are already in place with more than a dozen Burkinabe working fulltime on site to foster our vision of a self-supporting village. We thought about innovation …and decided to extend our product range. Until now, it consists of several honey flavours, mead and some other products. Therefore, we are currently examining ways to make better use of the wax (at least 20 tons annually!) by experimenting with creams, lotions and lipsticks. We hope to launch the new products in early 2015. As the organization grows, it is crucial to keep revenues and costs transparent and allocate responsibility to the people on site. For our four locations (Koudougou, Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Mangodara) we therefore are on the way to set-up a basic Profit Center Accounting approach.
